For the 2nd Edition of Portrait Jazz we would like to explore Blue Train. Recorded in 1958, this album features several of Coltrane’s compositions.

Tunes like Moment’s Notice and Lazy Bird, which have now become jazz standards, are early explorations into unknown harmonic territory and mark the beginning of Coltrane’s musical journey into another dimension. For now though, it’s still hard bop. Supporting cast include Miles Davis’ Rhythm Section in Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones and a couple of Art Blakey’s messangers in Lee Morgan and Curtis Fuller. Definitely one of the most iconic albums of all time.

The night will go from 7pm til 11, get down early so you can catch the house set and have enough time to jam aswell. See you there!
