PortraitJazz#1: Miles Davis - Relaxin

Portrait Jazz is a jam session every other Tuesday at Unit31. At every edition the house band plays a classic Jazz album from start to finish, after which we will open up for anyone who wants to join and play over various bebop/hard bop standards.

For the first edition of Portrait Jazz, we would like to explore 'Relaxin' with Miles Davis'. This album along with 3 others was recorded in just two sessions in 1956. Miles was clearly in a hurry to finish his contract with Prestige Records because of a more lucrative opportunity to join Columbia Records. Be that as it may, you won't hear jazz standards played much better than this - Miles and Tranes' soloing styles contrast really nice and the Rhythm section are so tight and precise. Hard Bop at its best.

The night will go from 7pm til 11, get down early so you can catch the house set and have enough time to jam aswell. See you there!

Johnny Woodham - trumpet
Theo Erskine - tenor
Raffy Bushman - piano
Edoardo Bombace - bass
Samuel Michnik - drums

Entry: £5
Free for musicians

Salt Peanuts 20th edition hosted by TY

This will be the 20th edition of the Salt Peanuts Cypher and we are really excited to share with you. Unit31 has been running this event for almost three years now so number 20 feels like bit of a milestone. The timing couldn't be better as we've just done some serious construction work on the space, which is now much bigger!

We will run this event on SUNDAY the 22nd of July, starting from 4 PM with some amazing DJ's. We are also super excited to have UK Hip Hop legend Ty hosting the Cypher.

TY's new album Work of Heart has just been release on the Jazz Refreshed label and we sincerely hope he will come to perform it on a later date, but until then we are honored to have him run the mic for us. Vibe is guaranteed.

Singers, rappers, musicians, civilians all welcome. See you there!
